Who can reserve YLC classrooms?
UO campus departments and affiliates are able to reserve spaces in YLC. Reservations are first-come, first served with UO-CRN denoted language classes that are a part of the Schnitzer School of Global Studies and Languages and that rely heavily on collaboration and technology having first priority in our classrooms.
What kinds of spaces can I reserve at YLC?
We have 5 classrooms that are perfect for language classes that rely heavily on collaboration and technology.
Our student center in MCK 175 is a large multi-purpose room that can be used for small classes, meetings, studying, tutoring, group projects and events. This room can be reserved in a variety of ways; a semi-private conference space in the corner or the entire room can be reserved for events (AY 26-27 - only entire room can be booked). We also have reservable tables in the McKenzie courtyard under a few of the alcoves.
MCK 175D is a room available for small group hybrid teaching and conferencing. This space is not reservable online or via email, but can be used on a first come, first served basis for office hours or private space needs while in the center. Capacity is 6.
What types of events do you book?
We host language classes, conferences, seminars, lectures, workshops, meetings, presentations, movie night and game nights, and language/cultural related events.
What hours are YLC spaces available for reservation?
During YLC's operational work hours :Monday - Thursday 8:00am-5:00pm, Friday 8:00am-3:00pm. After hour requests need approval from the YLC Director.
What services and equipment are available at YLC?
All YLC classrooms are perfect for interactive teaching and the rooms have mobile furniture, excellent sound, video, and wireless internet access. There are three flatscreens in each room, large white boards on the walls and individual white boards for student work. There is a crestron in each room along with a document camera, and a camera for hyflex teaching if needed. YLC staff is always available to help with classroom tech needs.
YLC also checks out a variety of equipment such as cameras, laptops, microphones, adaptors, teaching supplies.
Can I book catering for an event held at YLC?
Yes. When making your reservation, use the comments section to let us know about catering and any other details (room layout, special needs). Please note that YOU are responsible for cleaning up after your event.
Is there a fee to reserve space at YLC?
Space at YLC is reservable (generally free of charge*) by UO departments that are a part of the Schnitzer School of Global Studies and Languages and affiliates in support of efforts that align with our mission.
*YLC charges $35/hr for use of our spaces. If your event is on the weekend or past 5pm, a nominal charge of $25/hour for coverage from YLC staff will also be charged.
